Newborn Enrollment & First Appointment:

Congratulations on your new arrival! To ensure a smooth start for your baby's healthcare journey with us, please follow these steps immediately after being discharged from the hospital. This process allows you to be seen right away for your first crucial well-baby check-ups.

Step 1: Enroll in DEERS at the MPF.

Your first stop is the Military Personnel Flight (MPF). Bring your newborn's hospital letter of live birth to enroll them in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS). You do not need to wait for the official birth certificate or Social Security card for this initial step.

Step 2: Activate TRICARE Benefits.

Once DEERS enrollment is complete, call 1-800-TRICARE to activate your newborn's benefits.

Step 3: Activate Your Patient Profile.

After activating TRICARE, either call 229-257-2778 or stop by the Outpatient Records window. Inform them you have just enrolled your newborn and ask them to ensure the patient profile is active in our system. This is a critical step that allows us to schedule an appointment.

Step 4: Schedule Your First Well Visit.

With an active profile, you can now schedule your newborn's first appointment (usually within 3-5 days of discharge). Contact the Appointment Line at 229-257-APPT (2778) or stop by the Pediatric front desk to schedule your well visit with the Pediatrics team.

As a new parent, you probably need rest. You can achieve steps 2-4 from the comfort of the hospital or home by calling 1-800-TRICARE and 229-257-APPT.

Walk in Services

Moody Air Force Base does not have a walk-in sick call.

Walk-in vision and hearing screenings are held Monday-Friday, 8-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m.

If the appointment line is unable to immediately schedule you an appointment, the nurse will review your message, triage your needs, and contact you with a course of action.

Georgia School Forms and Sports Physicals

The state of Georgia requires completion of a state Department of Public Health Form 3300 to attend school. Walk-in vision and hearing screenings are held Monday-Friday, 8-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. Your child's immunizations must be up to date for base childcare and school registration. Pediatric patients are considered high-risk for influenza; parents should consider an annual flu shot for their children.

We conduct multiple school sports physical days per year; otherwise, these special exams require a scheduled appointment. Sports physical day is announced several weeks before the event and are open to all enrolled beneficiaries.

Well-Child Exam

Your child should have preventive care visits at 1 week, 2 weeks, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months, 15 months, 18 months, 2 years, and annually thereafter.

Telephone Consult (TCON)

Telephone consults are requests that can be completed without an appointment. These are not to be confused with virtual appointments.
  • Call the appointment line at 229-257-APPT (2778) to request a TCON message to be sent to your child’s PCM.
  • Providers will review the TCON and determine the best action needed to grant the request.
  • Once a TCON is in place, the provider has 3 business days to respond. A nurse or technician will contact the patient’s sponsor with the provider’s response.

Message Requests

Requests for items that may not require an appointment (e.g., medication renewals, referral renewals, lab/test results, immunization records, etc.) can be done in the form of a message to your child’s PCM team.
  • To message the team on “non-urgent” matters, personnel must activate and log into their MHS GENESIS patient portal account.
  • Once a message request is placed, the provider has three business days to respond.
  • Administrative documents may take up to 10 business days to complete.
  • A nurse or technician will contact the patient’s sponsor with the provider’s response.

Schedule an Appointment

Patient’s sponsor/parent should contact the Appointment Line at 229-257-APPT (2778) to schedule an appointment.

If the appointment line is unable to immediately schedule you an appointment, request a message to be sent to the Dependent Care team nurse. The nurse will review your message, triage your needs, and contact you with a course of action.

Patients can also schedule an appointment, view your medical health record, request a prescription refill, check a lab result, or send a message to your health care team by logging into your MHS GENESIS Patient Portal.
