Patient Travel 

Patient Travel is a benefit provided to active duty service members and their dependents when families are: 

• TRICARE Prime enrollees with an approved referral 

• Empaneled to the 23rd Medical Group  

• Specialty care referral is 100 or more miles one way 

The Prime Travel Benefit reimburses reasonable travel expenses you pay when traveling to and from your medical appointment for a qualified trip by a TRICARE Prime enrollee.  

The travel benefit includes mileage, meals, tolls, parking, lodging, local transportation, and tickets for public transportation.   

How to Make an Appointment 

Once you have a referral for specialty care that qualifies for the Prime Travel Benefit, you can visit the patient travel coordinators at the Referral Management Office in the main building during duty hours.  

We’ll then provide you with details and documentation, which will need to be signed and acknowledged before taking your trip. Additionally, we’ll ensure that proper Government Travel Charge Card or direct deposit information is accurate to ensure proper reimbursement.

Important Information 

• Patient travel is not for emergencies 

• A trip for health services not covered by TRICARE does not qualify for reimbursement 

• Must be a TRICARE Prime enrollee to receive the Prime Travel Benefit
