Cosmetic/Elective Care

Active Duty Service Members: ADSMs must obtain MTF commander and unit commander approval prior to having any procedure completed. ADSMs should not seek any elective/cosmetic procedures prior to discussing with the MTF. TRICARE does not cover cosmetic procedures that are aesthetic in nature only (i.e., face-lifts, tummy tucks, hair transplants). TRICARE does cover cosmetic, reconstructive, and plastic surgery to improve the physical appearance of a beneficiary only under certain circumstances, such as correction of a birth defect, restoration of a body form following an accident, and reconstructive breast surgery following a medically-necessary mastectomy.
