Urgent & Emergency Care FAQs
What should I do if I have a non-life-threatening health issue?
The Moody AFB military treatment facility  wants to be your first choice for non-life threatening health issues. Being seen in the MTF allows your medical records to be easily accessible to health care professionals and makes it easier for your health care team to notice trends in your medical needs that may impact your overall health. Additionally, these records will be accessible when you move from installation to installation within the MHS.
Calling the appointment line is the first stop to get in to see your health care team. If the appointment line is unable to book an appointment during a time frame that works with your needs, the appointment line will send a message to your team nurse to see what the best option is for your needs. The nurse may be able to assist over the phone, have a time for you to come in to see the nurse or provider, or refer you to an urgent care site. When a referral is placed, it allows the PCM team to receive the notes back and know you were seen in urgent care and follow up with you as needed.
After duty hours, the appointment line will connect you to the Nurse Advice Line, or you may contact the Nurse Advice Line directly at 1-800-TRICARE. The Nurse Advice Line can triage your medical needs and direct you to the appropriate care within the needed time frame. The Nurse Advice Line can book appointments at the MTF when the appointment line isn’t open and can submit referrals to Urgent Care.
Active Duty members always require a referral for Urgent Care visits. There are readiness implications to care received outside of the MTF and the primary care manager needs to be aware to make appropriate dispositions. Non-Active Duty members may seek Urgent Care without a referral. Utilizing the Nurse Advice Line for Urgent Care has advantages, as it can direct you to the closest open TRICARE network Urgent Care Center or Emergency Department if no urgent care exists in your area.
